Military Advanced Education Online

  • Education Innovator
Gary A. Woods Director, Educational Opportunities Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness
  • Reducing the Special Circumstances
Today’s sailors, soldiers, airmen and Marines are supporting an operating tempo that is unrivaled in recent history. Increased time away from home station, diminished time for personal pursuits and interests and other special circumstances challenge service men and service women to complete quality off-duty education.
  • Those Who Serve
Three servicemembers tell how they fit voluntary education into their lives.
  • SOCCOAST
The United States Coast Guard is a small service whose members are deployed on cutters, stations and bases, at home and abroad. Its size, locations and mission require educational solutions and opportunities that can support the unique needs of this service.
  • The Changing Face of Education
Despite the frequent skepticism of the past, in today’s competitive education setting, the military services of the United States have embraced the online education phenomenon and have recruited colleges and universities to be their education partners
  • The Noncredit Course Makes a Comeback
Michael P. Lambert, executive director of the Distance Education and Training Council discusses vocational noncredit distance learning programs. Academic degrees are a good thing for people to have, no doubt about it. But many military members do not want to earn a degree since they may have other goals in life, and forcing them into degree studies may not be the most productive exercise.
  • Mixing Sea Duty and Learning
The Navy College Program for Afloat College Education (NCPACE) was established to extend the benefits of the broader Navy College Program to the operational forces by providing sailors assigned to sea duty the opportunity to earn a degree and continue their professional growth.
  • Distance Education Universities (DEU)
Lynn Gilath Executive Vice President and Co-Owner
