MSA Program Gains Traction

eKnowledge Corporation, a supplier of interactive learning software for college test preparation, and militaryconnection.com have partnered to advance the Military Sponsorship Alliance Program, a military support initiative supported by NFL and MLB players, Veteran Service Organizations and DoD.

eKnowledge and militaryconnection.com are donating SAT/ACT PowerPrep programs valued at $200 to military servicemembers (including active duty members, veterans, reserves, National Guard members, retired servicemembers) and their extended families.

PowerPrep programs include over 20 hours of video instruction and 3,000 files of supplemental test prep material. Thousands of interactive diagnostic tools, sample questions, practice tests and graphic teaching illustrations are indexed for easy use. The new PowerPrep software is Mac, PC and Win7 compatible.

Over the last several years, eKnowledge has donated more than 132,000 SAT/ACT test prep programs priced at $200 to recipients worldwide. The total value of the donation exceeds $28 million.

QuikClot Scholarship to Support Veterans at GWU

Z-Medica Corporation, a medical device company that develops innovative hemostatic agents, has initiated a $100,000 scholarship fund for U.S. military veterans attending George Washington University.

The QuikClot Scholarship Fund supports the university’s Yellow Ribbon Program, which allows qualified veterans to attend GWU as undergraduate students and receive full tuition scholarships. In addition, qualified graduate students receive a significantly discounted rate of tuition. The scholarship fund will support four undergraduate and seven graduate student veterans.

“GW is honored to have Z-Medica’s support for the Yellow Ribbon Program,” remarked the university’s senior vice president for student and academic support services Robert Chernak. “Without contributions such as Z-Medica’s, the Yellow Ribbon program would not be able to support nearly the number of veterans that we do today.”

The Yellow Ribbon Program will cover all qualified Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who attend GWU, as well as any outstanding tuition and fees above those covered by the GI Bill benefit.

Partnerships Enhance LDRSHIP Award, Clinton to Speak at CCA Convention

The Imagine America Foundation (IAF), an associated foundation of the Career College Association (CAA), and Blackboard Inc. have joined forces in support of the LDRSHIP Award, which offers eligible military personnel currently enrolled in a CCA institution the opportunity to further their education with grants to put towards their courses of study. The support will help veterans, reservists and honorably discharged or active duty young men and women preparing to return from military service to pursue education and acquire skills needed for success as they move into civilian careers.

“We are grateful to Blackboard for their support of this important program for the United States military community,” said IAF President Robert L. Martin. “Blackboard’s commitment to adult education creates a wonderful opportunity for the deserving men and women who work so hard on behalf of our country.”

In related news, President Bill Clinton will address CCA’s 2010 annual convention in a keynote sponsored by Blackboard. Clinton will speak to over 1,000 CCA members representing private postsecondary schools, institutes, colleges and universities across the country that offer career-specific education programs.

FRA Launches Education Foundation

The Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) launched the FRA Education Foundation, expanding its scholarship program. The foundation will endeavor to assist scholars through the development of a variety of new scholarships as well as other educational programs.

“Thanks to the generosity of our members and corporate sponsors, the program has grown substantially in recent years,” noted FRA National Executive Director Joe Barnes.

Last year FRA supported 28 students with $100,000 in scholarships. This represents a significant increase from 2000, when it awarded $37,141 to 16 students. ♦
