Grantham University in Kansas City, Mo., named Lieutenant General Thomas G. Rhame (Ret.) to its board of governors. Rhame is currently vice president of finance and administration at the Association of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement from the Army, Rhame was director of the Defense Security Assistance Agency.


Columbus State Community College in Ohio named Judith Scherer as provost, succeeding Kay Adkins. Scherer previously was vice president of academic affairs at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and has also worked at Jackson State Community College in Tennessee and Southwestern Oregon Community College.


Johnston Community College in Smithfield, N.J., named Dr. David Johnson its new president, succeeding Dr. Donald L. Reichard, who retired. Johnson was previously provost of Southside Virginia Community College’s John H. Daniel campus in Keysville, Va. Johnston is the 16th largest community college in the state, with an enrollment this past year of more than 20,000.


Dr. Jonathan Gueverra, formerly provost of Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria campus, was named CEO of the Community College of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). Gueverra succeeds Dr. Eurmon Hervey, who is now provost of Edward Waters College in Florida. UDC launched the community college last year.


Frank Trocki, the vice president of business development for West Orange, N.J.-based Lincoln Educational Services/Lincoln College of Technology, was named chancellor for Montana State University-Northern, in Havre, the Associated Press reported. Trocki succeeds interim chancellor Rolf Groseth.


Dr. Linda Bleicken was named president of Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) in Savannah, Ga., succeeding Dr. Thomas Jones, who retired. Bleicken was previously provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro.


Jamie Littlefield, manager of About.com’s distance learning Website, joined the U.S. Distance Learning Association’s advisory board. Littlefield is a former independent study teacher who in 2004 received the Peter Lincoln Spencer Fellowship award for excellence and innovation in teaching.


John Broderick was appointed president of Old Dominion University, overseeing the Norfolk, Va., university’s six colleges and more than 10 economic development and research centers. Broderick had been serving as acting president of Old Dominion since June 2008.


The Texas A&M University Board of Regents elected Morris Foster as chairman and James Wilson as vice chairman, replacing Bill Jones and John White. Foster is currently chairman of Stagecoach/Millcreek Resort and is a former president of ExxonMobil Production in Houston. Wilson is chairman and CEO of the Houston-based investment firm JK Acquisition.


The University of the Rockies, a Colorado Springs-based graduate school specializing in psychology programs, announced four new appointments: Amy Kahn, as director of diversity; Dr. Tina Parscal, as director of academic quality; Judith Steed, as director of assessment; and Janet Brugger, as director of student affairs. The University of the Rockies’ parent company is San Diegobased Bridgepoint Education.


Dr. David Dooley, provost and vice president of academic affairs for Montana State University, is now president of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. Dooley succeeds Robert Carothers. ♦
