ON CAMPUS

 
Charles Town, W.Va.-based American Public University System named Dr. Sharon van Wyk as COO, in charge of student services, human resources and information technology. Van Wyk was previously a vice president at software provider Intuit.

Cypress, Calif.-based TUI Learning, the holding company of TUI University LLC, named Ken Sobaski as CEO, with former President and CEO Yoram Neumann assuming the role of executive chairman. Sobaski was previously president and COO of Capella Education, the holding company of Capella University.


The Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., named Lorne M. Buchman as president and CEO, succeeding Dr. Frank L. Ellsworth. Buchman was previously president of the California College of Arts and Crafts, located in San Francisco and Oakland.


Dr. Clifford L. Stanley, a retired major general with the U.S. Marine Corps, announced his retirement as president and CEO of Scholarship America, a Minneapolisbased scholarship and education support organization. The group at press time was searching for Stanley’s successor.


Dr. Marcia G. Welsh joined Towson University in Towson, Md., as provost and vice president for academic affairs. Welsh is a former provost and senior vice president at Garden City, N.Y.-based Adelphi University and succeeds James P. Clements, who recently became president of West Virginia University, in Morgantown.


Florida Atlantic University President Frank T. Brogan was named chancellor of the State University System of Florida. Brogan was lieutenant governor of the state from 1999 to 2003. In his new post Brogan succeeds Mark Rosenberg, who was named president of Florida International University in April.


UC Berkeley Extension, a provider of professional and continuing education, named Dr. Jason Lemon as associate dean and Ted Huang as CFO. Lemon is a former director of online learning at the institution, while Huang is a former director with Alvarez & Marsal Business Consulting in San Francisco.

 


ON BASE

Rear Admiral Joseph F. Kilkenny will be assigned as commander of Naval Education and Training Command in Pensacola, Fla. Kilkenny is currently serving as commander of Navy Recruiting Command in Millington, Tenn.
 


Michael Tevan, an education services specialist with HQ IMCOM in Arlington, Va., was assigned as program manager with the Office of the Secretary of Defense. James Reilly, an education service specialist with EURO in Schweinfurt, Germany, was reassigned to NERO, at Fort Hamilton, N.Y.
 


Elizabeth Banks is now the Navy college office director at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. Emmett Williams was named the Navy college office director for the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.
 


Jimmie Swift is now an education technician with the education center staff at the U.S. Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. Former Tinker Air Force Base guidance counselor Margo Haines is now the U.S. Coast Guard’s education services officer at Sector Lake Michigan.
 


DANTES training manager H.S. “Ace” DuBose retired from the federal civil service at the beginning of 2009, following a 41-year career in the U.S. Air Force, the Florida state government and DANTES, among other organizations.
