U.S. Marine Corps Major General Clifford Stanley (Ret.) was nominated as under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness. Stanley most recently was president of the nonprofi t Scholarship America and, if approved by the Senate, in his new role would serve as the top policy adviser to the secretary of defense for issues related to recruiting, career development and retention, and pay and benefits.
The Missouri Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a DoD agency, awarded Grantham University employee Paul Alley a Patriot Award in recognition of his support for employees of the Kansas City, Mo.-based university who are also members of the Missouri National Guard and Reserve.
Major General Maurice H. Forsyth, commander of the Spaatz Center for Offi cer Education and commandant of the Air War College at Air University at the Air Education and Training Command at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., was named commander of the Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education and vice commander of Air University. Succeeding Forsyth in his previous command will be Major General Robert C. Kane, who is currently commanding general of the Coalition Air Force Transition Team, Multi-National Security Transition Command— Iraq in Baghdad.

Brenda Dann-Messier was expected to be confi rmed by the Senate as head of the Education Department’s Offi ce of Adult and Vocational Education, overseeing adult education programs and policies for U.S. community colleges. Previously, she was president of an adult education center in Providence, R.I.
The National Defense Intelligence College in Washington, D.C., named David R. Ellison its new president. Ellison was previously president and superintendent of the New Mexico Military Institute. Dr. Paul B. Carney was named vice president of enrollment management and student affairs at St. Louis, Mo.-based Webster University. Carney previously was vice president of enrollment at Springfi eld, Mo.-based Drury University.
Joycelyn Groot was recently named dean of military and contract education at Orange County, Calif.-based Coastline Community College. This is a new position combining the contract education and military programs departments, the former of which Groot previously directed.
The American Association of Community Colleges in Washington, D.C., named Dr. Christopher M. Mullin as a policy analyst, a new position created through a grant from the Lumina Foundation for Education. ♦
