Dian Stoskopf Retires
Dian Stoskopf, Director of Education, Department of the Army, retired in August after 36 years of federal civilian service. Stoskopf, a native of Great Bend, Kan., oversaw policy guidance for ACES (Army Continuing Education System) at 115 Army Education Centers and 129 Army Learning Centers worldwide, with a budget of over $301 million.
Stoskopf spearheaded the team that brought eArmyU to the soldiers, where they now can take classes anywhere, anytime with laptops and support programs. Now serving more than 79,000 active soldier participants, eArmyU revolutionized Army education and serves as a premier online learning program for a new generation of soldiers. The eArmyU model became the basis for a centralized, standardized tuition assistance management system that launched in April 2006 with services to over 140 colleges and universities and provides over 170,000 soldiers the opportunity to enroll in over 260,000 college courses annually.
Stoskopf entered Civil Service in November 1971 as a vocational development specialist, Camp Same San, Thailand. Her other assignments have included educational counselor to Eighth U.S. Army, Yongsan, Korea; education specialist, Military Intelligence Center and School, Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; senior education services officer, Baumholder, Germany; education program administrator, Department of the Army, Alexandria, Va.; director of education, Military District Washington, and education services officer, Fort Myer, Va.; chief, Community and Family Support, Ft.McNair, Va.; and deputy director of education, Department of the Army, Alexandria, Va. She assumed her present duties in January 1997 as the first civilian and female director of the Army’s voluntary education programs and services.
DANTES and MAE wishes Ms. Stoskopf well on her retirement! ♦
